Metzeral to Shonach
After leaving our friends in Metzeral we are down to just the two cars, Anne & myself along with Nige & Carol.
As the journey was relatively short we decided to take the longest scenic route we could, no tolls, no highways, just chillways..........

We enter Germany after a fantastic drive then arrive at the Hotel Pension in Schonach, It is very picturesque and our rooms are magnificent with stunning views from the windows. http://www.schwarzwald.de/urlaub-im-schwarzwald/schwarzwald-hotels/detail/Hotel_Pension_Bergfriede/

After talking to the hotel owner about how we liked touring he said he would give us a list of directions for a route that might interest us taking in various sights including the waterfalls at Triberg, I have to say he wasn't wrong about the "interesting" part
9.00am breakfast is excellent and at 10.00am our day of touring commences. Our first stop is at (B)Triberg where there are the highest waterfalls in Germany (well so we are told). They are magnificent and we climb over half way up them, taking photos and videos on the way. 11.45am we depart after a bit of retail therapy (well us gals deserved one chance to shop!) and at 12 noon we are posing our cars under a ski jump which is very impressive. Here we ‘meet’ a grossen bitchen who tells us not to block the road for photos hmmmmmfffff. 12.45 onwards to (C)Titisee then (D)Feldberg and (E)Todtnall - all along very pretty roads - a nice sedate little drive. After lunch which is coffee and cakes eaten in our cars we carry on with the drive. By 15.00pm we arrive at (F)Munstertal and at 15.35pm we are heading for (G)Botzingen and (H)Emmendingen and finally back to (A)Schonach where we drive round to see the biggest cuckoo clock in the area. It is on the side of a house but we are not allowed to tour inside unfortunately.
Triberg...........Busy yet very picturesque
The reason to visit Triberg
..........and the other reason to visit
......under the ski jump
Shortly after taking this picture a kindly German lady politely asked us to move
...............NOT!!
She had to have been the most obnoxious, rude, nasty bit*h I have had the displeasure of meeting (Wish I had taken her picture but it probably would have got me in trouble for frightening small children)
Some of the scenery on our little excursion

............we find a nice bit of country road to follow which eventually ends up like a cycle track and even goes over a small bridge which we negotiate carefully! 13.00pm we take a short break for lunch and we are off again on the picturesque roads. 13.30pm we are back in France and motoring along nicely.
16.00pm we arrive at our B&B in Nancy.

Nancy to Rheims
8.00am we wake to another pleasant morning we are once more packed up and ready for the off towards Rheims.
We are driving through pretty villages with blue skies on glorious open roads with very little traffic. The roads are weird...... very long and very straight with very little traffic, every time we come over the top of a hill we see more roads stretching out ahead. 12.30pm we find a little bar on the roadside and chill with a glass of wine and a sandwich in the company of a pink tinted poodle .

At 13.00pm we are off again running smoothly in the sunshine - just chilling as we drive along. 2.00pm we are in the pits!!!!!!!!!!!! At the old formula one race track Rheims
15.00pm we arrive at Reims and park up for a stroll to the cathedral - it is very spectacular.
Hotel Campanile Murigny
18.30pm we finally find our Campanille hotel after a bit of a hic up with the sat navs. We settle in and go for a meal in the hotel restaurant - this is our only really disappointing meal of the whole holiday (memo to selves don’t order steak in a small hotel)

Rheims to Dunkirk
9.30am and we are ready for the last leg of our journey - to Dunkerque, but once again we take the country roads.
This was our intended route, once again a leisurely drive avoiding tolls, highways etc.
Unfortunately it was a bit too leisurely as we had to pick up the pace in order to make our ferry time so we had to make the last part of our journey on toll roads.......

We still managed to see some fantastic scenery
..............as well as coming across a poignant memorial in the middle of nowhere
At 15.30pm we are in a line waiting to board and then all of a sudden we are on the ferry. Hey ho…..watches back to British time and at 17.20pm we disembark and are back on English soil............
Starting in France with the Ten Years of the Roadster trip and carrying on to our Black Forest adventure we have traveled a total of 2185 miles in wonderful company, seen marvelous sights and got so many memories. It has been magnificent and we would do it again tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
My thoughts
Having passed through the Black Forest on previous Continental road trips I have to say that spending time here was everything I thought it would be and more, the scenery, the people, our fantastic companions........... almost everything, made this another holiday to remember and yet another place I would love to go back to
